Bodywork

Services

Services with Heather are generally a hybrid of modalities, the most common being Myofascial Release and Hawaiian Lomilomi. Heather has trained in Chicago (IL), North Carolina, Nashville (TN), Columbus (OH), and Oregon to develop a style unique to her and profoundly healing. At the time of your initial consultation and ongoing in your treatment, the information you provide will determine if it will be best to receive hybrid work or intensive work within one modality.

Myofascial Release – An intuitive and intentional approach to healing, with slow and precisely timed techniques. This work is considered by many to be the most effective healing modality, which is why it is the most accepted by insurance. It focuses on the most important element in the functioning of a healthy body – the fascia. The connective tissue in the body has been overlooked in the past, seen as a mere covering for muscles and organs. Healthy fascia means healthy blood and lymph flow, relaxed muscles, and the optimum environment for overall good health. *This work, especially the style Heather practices, is best received with a mind open to all healing potential, and can include elements of breathwork and presence to optimize its effects. This is not a passive massage and will require you to participate. In return, you will gain priceless body wisdom that will help you to *stay healthy.*

Lomilomi – Originating in Hawai’i and traditionally passed down among a familial lineage of healers, this work is one part strong water-like movement, one part presence. This work in its complete form gives the feeling of being carried away on ocean waves, and can be profoundly emotionally healing without the need to talk. The recipient will also gain body wisdom with this style of work, and it is also dependent upon your openness to healing, but it is more passive.

Massage Cupping – This style of cupping involves placing and moving cups along the tissue using suction, bringing blood to the surface and moving it. This can be helpful for tight muscles that are experiencing limited blood flow, giving a rejuvenating effect. Unlike styles of cupping with stationary cups left in place, this style will generally not leave any bruising. Within Heather’s work, massage cupping tends to be used in supplement rather than the main technique.

Additional Modalities: Swedish massage, sports massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Infant massage (instruction for new parents), lymphatic drainage (Heather does not work on post-op elective cosmetic surgery cases)
